If you have very long speaker runs (plus 50 feet) Blue Jeans Cable has OFC 10 gauge speaker wire. Banana plugs take away the hassle of cutting/fiddling around with speaker wire. The OFC multi strand 12 gauge wire looks to be a generic, commodity and MediaBridge stuff is well made and only 42 cents per foot for 100 feet including s/h and no tax. Keep pressing the cable into the banana plug until you can’t push it any farther. Take the banana plug with the red stripe and unscrew the bottom about half way and feed the speaker wire into the bottom of the banana plug. I went with the Mediabridge speaker wire over Blue Jeans Cable. The other banana plug will attach to the black cable. The MediaBridge banana plugs are VERY EASY to work with and, even for me, installing them was a breeze. They fit very snug and can be removed and reinserted and remain snug and the plug does not degrade as some of the reviews say about Sewell. The banana plugs almost look like a knock off of the Sewell deadbolt plugs, except the plug itself is solid. I now have MediaBridge 12 gauge wire bought from Amazon.
The 16 gauge wire seems very flimsy compared to either 14 or 12 gauge wire. I first used MediaBridge 16 gauge, copper clad aluminum (CCA) wire before I read some of the articles from this website. I often discard the outer jacket on these and use heat-shrink instead for a nice slim connector. These are pretty good too, make a nice rugged connection with 2 set screws. These are by far the best that I have found: They work on some of my gear, but not all of it, so I tend to avoid that. Monoprice-while these are fairly good quality, for me they tend to have connections that are too tight. The few cables and adapters that I have from them are top notch! I don't remember the model #s, but I prefer their more flexible cables. I really like the BJC, but note that some of their cables are very stiff and can't be bent well. Regardless, it doesn't affect the sound, but I don't like to see it. I'm thinking maybe the insulation had some contamination on that spool. Oddly, I have some other Monoprice cable that is different AWG, bought at the same time, and it has NOT done this.
